About the Performance

This program explores the rich musical dialogue between American innovation and European tradition. Award-winning guest conductor Richard Rosenberg leads an evening that begins with the vibrant tropical colors and Creole influences of Louis Moreau Gottschalk's Symphonie romantique, a work infused with the spirit of the Americas.

Pianist Michael Gurt brings Dana Suesse's Concerto in Three Rhythms to life before the orchestra turns to one of the most celebrated works in classical music: Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Driven by its legendary four-note motif and unmatched dramatic power, Beethoven's masterpiece remains one of the most recognizable and influential works ever written.
