This is work of a manual nature which requires leading and participating in the activities of employees engaged in limited construction, maintenance, repair, and related work. The work is performed with independence, but more unusual or difficult work is inspected by a superior while in progress and upon completion. Although a Labor Foreman I may personally perform the same duties as a Laborer II, provision of leadership and responsibility for ensuring quality completion of work distinguish this class from the class of Laborer II. Primary focus of area of assignment is set-up and break down of tables, chairs, risers, etc. for events at the Heymann Performing Arts and Convention Center, and general maintenance of the facility and grounds. Incumbents will be required to work irregular hours due to event driven schedule. Completion of the eighth school grade, and experience in the maintenance, repair, and minor construction of municipal facilities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience desired NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATION: Valid driver’s license required to apply. Valid Louisiana driver’s license required prior to appointment. Examination will be a multiple-choice exam.Note: Labor Foreman I vacancies at the HPACC require a separate application and testing process from those used to fill positions under other Labor Foreman I designations. $2,532-$3,167/month/DOE. Position is responsible for cleaning of the facility and/or assistance with maintenance projects and event related work. Flexible hours to include nights and weekends. Perfect addition to other employment, college or technical training program schedules. Desirable skills and experience: facility maintenance experience, lawn and garden experience, forklift and/or man-lift experience, janitorial experience, or any combination of these.

Team and individual work assignments.

Job Requirements:

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position occasionally.
• Must be able to traverse stairs
• Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder to service lighting fixtures, equipment or other items
• Knowledge of standard hand tools and equipment used in area of work assignment.
• Some knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques commonly used in public works, utilities, and parks and recreation maintenance, repair, and minor construction activities.
• Some knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
• Ability to drive an automobile or pickup truck as required.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to get along with fellow employees and superiors.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects, and to perform heavy physical work under varying weather conditions when time schedules must be maintained.
• Skill in the use of hand tools and equipment in area of assigned work.

$12.00 per hour
