Francis Poulenc’s witty and urbane Sextet bursts with Parisian flair, while Darius Milhaud’s La création du monde blends jazz and classical idioms in a bold, rhythmically charged vision of the world’s beginning, inspired by African mythology and the energy of 1920s Paris. Balancing the French exuberance is Haydn’s London Trio No. 3, a piece that is piece is elegant, buoyant, and full of wit, which he composed during his visits to England.
